Neuro GROOVE

Hi there wonderful reader! Welcome to this electrifying corner of cyberspace where neurons party and bodies boogie! Here, we're not just decoding the brain's secrets or breaking down movement mechanics; we're on a wild adventure through the thrilling intersection of neuroscience and movement.

Neuro GROOVE will be a series of blogs where I will be sharing with you some of the coolest ideas I’ve learned since I started my journey into the world of neuroscience.

The goal is to SPREAD THE WORD ( of the almighty NERVOUS SYSTEM ) and hopefully help you discover new ways to approach movement.

Why Neuroscience?

The story goes like this:

During lockdown I started taking my movement practice a bit more seriously, which meant that I was moving my body a lot more often and in ways that were slightly more demanding than usual. Great , right? Absolutely! But…slowly, I started getting some niggles here and there that later on turned into something more similar to what I recognize as PAIN.

As we will learn later on, pain is a wonderful ‘call to attention-seeker’, and in my case, it definitely worked! One day, I woke up with the most debilitating pain on my right shoulder that spread down my right arm and ,later on, up my neck . It was really intense and it was getting worse by the minute.

My first idea was to rest and not move the arm or neck …. it was not improving. Then I thought that moving it and ‘stretching’ could do the trick , and guess what? didn’t work either. I was so frustrated as the days were passing by and the pain remain unbothered so I thought I could try taking a painkiller ( this for me is always the very last resource) and though it did ease the pain down slightly , as soon as the effect would wear off , the pain would come back, as strong as ever.

So, I put my mind into action and started doing some research to see if I could find new ideas that could potentially help my shoulder. At first it was even more frustrating because all I found was the same things I had already tried and had not worked. Until YouTube presented me with Dr Eric Cobb , the founder of ZHealth , on a video talking about NERVE FLOSSING.

One video led to another , and another, and another , and I suddenly realized that I had found it! This was it.

And so with some breathing drills, a bit of nerve flossing and a great deal of Vision training my shoulder came back to life! I was able to fully recover from this awful pain in less than a week.

From then on, I decided that I wanted to keep exploring the world of neuroscience and so I continued to learn about it . To my joy, I not only was able to recover my shoulder but the more I applied the lessons learned from ZHealth, the better I started to feel and move.

Changing the focus

What amazed me the most was that the majority of the drills I did to recover my shoulder did not include shoulder movement . How is it possible that a breathing drill or moving my eyes in a certain way is helping with my shoulder pain ?

So I kept on reading, learning, trying, testing and I became quite a fan of the amazing results I got from changing my lens from a biomechanical to a NEURObiomecanichal way to approach movement. And frankly, the more I explore this approach the more I can see how much more effective it is than anything else I have done before in my life.

Another aspect that I feel is important to mention is that we can apply the concepts to ANY form of movement (weight lifting, dance, Yoga, Pilates, acrobatics, etc. ) but we could also just use it to improve our overall performance in life.

What 's next?

In the following weeks, I will share with you some of my favorite topics and drills and we will explore together ways in which we can put all of the learnt concepts into action.

If it sounds like a good plan, don’t forget to register to my mailing list and you will get a short email notifying you about each new blog.

And that is a wrap on our neural adventure of today! Keep those synapses firing and your bodies moving as we continue to explore the fascinating interplay between brain and body.

Stay curious, stay active and remember - every move you make is a step towards a smarter, more connected you.

Until next time, keep your brain buzzing and your body grooving!.

Celeste ~
